Anacyclus pyrethrum

English Name:- Spanish pellitory.

Botanical Name:- Anacyclus pyrethrum.

Family:- ASTERACEAE.

Parts- Used:- Roots, Leaves and Flower.

Habit:- A perennial procumbent herb, leaves compound bipinnatisect, flowers yellow in 

heads (Capitulum).

Taste:- Bitter.

Chemical Constituents:- Plant contains Alkaloids, Protein, Sugars and Volatile oil, 

Aluminum, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Polyacetylenic compounds, Pellitorine, 

Anacyclin, Enetriyne, Hydrocarbolin, Insulin, Sesamin, Tyramineamides.

Actions:- Silagogue, Stimulant, Sedative, Antibacterial acrid.

Used In:- Toothache, Paralysis, Rheumatism, Epilepsy and in sexual disorders in males. 

• Decoction of Akarkara roots is used for gargling to remove toothache and cure tonsils.

• It is applied externally for assimilation and maturation of abscess.

• It is applied externally as an analgestic.

• It is used with for massage in hemiplegia and nervine debility.

• This herb is highly beneficial in chronic rhinitis and cold.

• It is sued internally in various types of Vata disorders and low Pitta.

• It is used in sexually transmitted diseases and inflammation such as Aids.

• It is beneficial to remove roughness, hoarseness of voice.

• This herb is helpful in impotency caused by weakness of nerves.

• This herb is beneficial in curing sexual disorders.

• It helps remove urinebladder stones.

• It improves digestion, cures cough and other breathing disorders.

• Its fine powder mixed with mahua oil and massaged is beneficial in curing paralyses. 

If the root powder of this herb is taken in a dose of more than o.5 to1gm, it results in 

nausea, bleeding, increases heart rate and unconsciousness etc. In such conditions milk 

and other Pitta pacify measures should be used as a anti dose.
